Abridged – 21

October 5, 2010

Abridged 21 is out – the Magnolia edition. I must say it is a beautiful magazine – Abridged always is. There are some great photographs.

They have an impressive line up of contributors – Amanda Anastasi, Kevin Graham, Abigail O’Brien, Eoin McHugh, Helena Nolan, Jean James, Catherine Devlin, Noelle Sullivan, David McLean, Joanna Karolini, Mike Alexander, Kathleen McCracken, Michelle O’Sullivan, Clare McCotter, Patrick Hogan, JJ Griffin, Gill McEvoy, Simon Perchik, Alyson Hallett, Lisa Malone, Maria Campbell, Paul Muldoon, Xaviera Simmons, Peter Goulding.

I’ve also got a poem in there which is especially nice as the magazine is itself a work of art.

Nice one David – you’re in with some good names there alright, and vice versa!

Thanks Niamh. The next issue’s theme is ‘Nostalgia’ – might be worth entering.

I dunno, I’d think it would be more of a surprise if you weren’t in it. But it is a lovely magazine. They don’t seem to have much on the web though, so how do you find out about deadlines for submissions etc?

    Hi Pete,

Hmm – you’re right there isn’t much info online. The only reason I know about the Nostalgia theme is because they mentioned it in the magazine.

    Hi David,

I am Amanda Anastasi from Melbourne, Australia – one of the contributing poets in the Abridged: Magnolia issue. I thank you for the mention on your site! The Magnolia issue is an amazing collection of work, and the combination of poetry and images is quite striking. I enjoyed your ‘Cornice’ poem, as I am prone to staring up at ceiling cornices myself! Keep writing…

    Cheers,
    Amanda.

    Thanks Amanda,

Nice to hear from you – I agree that the magazine is great and I really enjoyed your poem ‘Peripheries’ – great title and poem.

    All the best,

    David
